Press Release Body: ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. (July 22, 2008) - Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, announces that it will be demonstrating its expertise in food safety and environmental technology at the 45th Annual Florida Pesticides Residue Workshop (FPRW). The company will showcase its range of innovative solutions at the Thermo Scientific booth #20-21, July 20-23 2008, and it will host a breakfast seminar and present posters and oral papers on food and water analysis applications.
Thermo Fisher is among the most comprehensive provider of solutions for demanding applications required by environmental and food safety laboratories, government organizations and regulatory agencies. The company supports environmental and food safety analysts by providing cutting-edge analytical instrumentation, technology and software for the detection of extremely low concentrations of pesticide residues, antibiotics and veterinary residues in food substances and drinking water.
An all-day Poster Session takes place on Monday, July 21 in the Banyan Breezeway, during which Thermo Fisher Scientific will present three posters in sessions A-5, A-6 and A-7. The three posters will be presented by Jonathan Beck and Eric Phillips from Thermo Fisher on the following subjects: Comparing Large Injection Volumes and Online Pre-Concentration in Water Analysis; Multi-Residue Pesticide Analysis using Ion-Trap GC/MS/MS Analysis with a modified QuEChERS Extraction for Lettuce; and Increased Mass Resolution to Reduce Matrix Interference with the LC-MS/MS Analysis of Pesticides in Food Residues.
Thermo Fisher will also host a breakfast seminar on Tuesday, July 22 from 7.30 a.m. to 8.15a.m. in the Banyan & Citrus Rooms (Jacaranda Hall) moderated by Dipankar Ghosh, Ph.D., strategic marketing manager, LC/MS Products, environmental and food safety, on Tuesday, June 3, 10:30-11:15 a.m. during the morning coffee break. Dr. Ghosh will discuss cradle-to-grave environmental solutions using Thermo Scientific TSQ Quantum LC-MS systems powered by TurboFlow and Multiplexing technologies. A second presentation by Eric Phillips, environmental and food safety market manager, Thermo Fisher Scientific, will cover optimization of a complete analysis of pesticide residues in produce by GC/MS.
Alongside the technical papers, Thermo Scientific will exhibit major technological innovations at its booth during the three-day workshop. The recent increase in public concern about the presence of harmful contaminants in the food chain has brought international attention to the regulatory issues regarding food and water contamination. Mass spectrometry and hyphenated techniques are the emerging methods of choice for the identification and quantification of pesticide residues because of their sensitivity and reliability. Designed to meet the most demanding regulatory requirements, the Thermo Scientific instrumentation on display at FPRW includes the TSQ Quantum AccessT, the ITQT series and the AccelaT.
o The Thermo Scientific TSQ Quantum Access is the benchmark triple quadrupole LC-MS/MS for pharmaceutical, environmental, food safety, clinical research and forensics analysis. This system features the innovative QED-MS/MS scan mode for unmatched sensitivity and selectivity.
o The Thermo Scientific Accela is a high-speed chromatography system that optimizes 1.9 µM column particle technology. Accela delivers fast, efficient chromatographic separations from conventional to ultra-high pressures of up to 15,000 psi.
o The Thermo Scientific ITQ Series of GC-ion trap mass spectrometers with external ionization are fully upgradeable systems designed to provide high performance and high specificity in environmental and food safety industries. The cost-effective Thermo Scientific ITQ 700 GC/MS system combines full scan ion trap sensitivity with a small footprint for laboratories with limited space.
